Character Fabrics (Toile de Jouy), manufactured in Jouy en Josas which is at the origin of this genre developed during the third quarter of the 18th century. It was particularly intended for the decoration of residences. Today, this genre is known under the name “toile de Jouy” (Fabric Jouy toile) by the general public, although it was also printed in other textile centres such as Nantes, Rouen, Mulhouse or England.
